The method involves partial application of an adhesive followed by application of a single-coloured or multicoloured flock in accordance with a printed pattern to a substrate sheet which consists of a pigmented or colour-printed plastics film of a certain thickness and Shore D hardness or a plastics nonwoven printed in one or more colours and of a certain surface weight. The excess layer of flock at the places coated with adhesive is removed, the adhesive is cured and the layer of flock is then removed from the places free from adhesive. The flocked sheets obtained by the method according to the invention serve, inter alia, as covering materials in the production of suitcases, briefcases and other small cases, as wall panelling and inner linings of motor vehicles.
