EMULSION POLYMERIZED SEC-BUTYL ACRYLATE LATEXES SUITABLE FOR USE ASPRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVES

ABSTRACTAn emulsion polymerized latex compositionsuitable for use as a pressure sensitive adhesivehaving from 82 to 99 percent, based on total polymerweight of sec-butyl acrylate and from 1 to 18 weightpercent, based on total polymer weight, of a polymerprepared from monomers selected from the groupconsisting of alkyl esters of acrylic acid andmethacrylic acids wherein the alkyl chain has up to 20carbon atoms, monovinylidene aromatics andethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and mixturesthereof. Additionally, the latex composition caninclude from 1 to 90 weight percent of a tackifyingresin, based on total solids weight. Adhesivesprepared with the subject latex compositions provide anexcellent balance of adhesive properties, i.e., peeland shear adhesion.
