Abstract Of The DisclosureDisclosed is a process for improving the solidsdistribution in a circulating fluidized bed system. In theinvention, hot ash from the system and fresh carbonaceousfuel are mixed in a chamber which is fluidized so as to forma fluidization zone wherein the heavier material isconcentrated and a second fluidization zone which consistspredominantly of fines at least a portion of which isseparated from the heavier material. This zone separationis facilitated in part by maintaining different gas-massflow rates so as to form a plug of heavier material. Atleast a portion of the fine material is then transferredinto the reactor while the coarse material is furtherprocessed.
