SHAPED CHARGE CARRIER FOR PERFORATING AN OIL OR GAS WELL

ABSTRACTA shaped charge carrier assembly apparatus,comprising at least one shaped charge including a radiallyouter surface having a forward generally cylindrical part;a rearward enlarged diameter part; a forward facing shoul-der between the forward part and the rearward part; a lugextending forwardly from the rearward part contiguous tothe forward part. The lug includes a longitudinal lugportion extending generally parallel to a longitudinalaxis of the shaped charge; and a radial lug portionextending outwardly from the longitudinal lug portionlongitudinally spaced from the rearward part. The appa-ratus also includes a carrier having a generally circularopening for receiving the shaped charge disposed through aplate, the thickness of which plate being less than thelongitudinal distance between the shoulder and the radiallug portion, so that when the charge is in place in thecarrier, the shoulder and the lug portion are on oppositesides of the plate. The opening includes a minimumdiameter portion too small to longitudinally receive thelug therethrough and a lug receiving portion for longitu-dinally receiving the lug therethrough. The carrier alsoincludes a wedge extending into the opening adjacent thelug receiving portion of the opening, for snugly engagingthe longitudinal lug portion upon rotation of the shapedcharge relative to the carrier after longitudinal inser-tion of the lug through the lug receiving portion of theopening.
