GAS MIXTURE FOR THERMOCHEMICAL TREATMENT OF METALS AND ALLOYS, PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR PREPARING SAME A gas mixture for a thermochemical treatment of metals and alloys comprising the components in the following proportions, % by volume: carbon monoxide 50.0 - 61.5 hydrogen 38.5 - 50.0. A process for preparing said mixture comprising conversion of saturated hydrocarbons containing one to four carbon atoms with carbon dioxide in the presence of a nickel-containing catalyst heated to a temperature of 1.123 -1.373 K and used in an amount of from 1 to 4 parts by volume of said hydrocarbons. An apparatus for preparing said gas mixture comprises a converter with a catalyst located coaxially with a housing with the formation of an annular clearance and a mixer communicating with an inlet pipe of said converter. The converter has an outlet pipe communicating with a consumer. Positioned in the annular clearance are heating members connected to a source of current and having power decreasing across the height of the catalyst bed in the direction of the gas flow. The mixer is connected to a vessel with carbon dioxide. The present invention can be most advantageously used in processes of a thermochemical treatment of metals and alloys thereof.
