A method for using an α-tocopherol derivative, particularly in its dl or d form, or an ester thereof, of general formula (I), wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, such as in particular a methyl or ethyl radical, or an α-tocopheryl radical; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, such as in particular a methyl or ethyl radical, or an oxyethylene chain, having the formula (II), wherein R3 and R4 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, and n represents an integer equal to or greater than 1; or a salt thereof, for preparing a pharmaceutical, dermatological or cosmetic composition designed to prevent or treat allergic manifestations such as skin allergies or bronchial asthma, or phlogistic manifestations, as well as to prevent or treat the harmful effects of free radicals.
