The handling mechanism is comprised of an output pinion configured like an elongate sleeve susceptible of torsion and provided with a device for measuring the torque withstood by the pinion. The torque measuring device is comprised of a bar (12) which extends inside the sleeve, fixed at one of its ends and provided at the other end with a lever (15) in contact with at least one linear displacement sensor (17) of the inductive coupling type. All the manoeuvring mechanisms are controlled by means of an installation which includes a central unit which collects all data collected at each output pinion (7), - a computer establishing a mean torque value and optionally the weight of the platform, - automatic control means for controlling the various lifting mechanisms.
