Improved thixotropic agents, thixotropic paint compositions containing them, and process for preparing the same

Improved thixotropic agents are disclosed which are produced by the reaction of (i) xylylene or C₄-C₈ diamine, and (ii) hydroxy-substituted C₁-C₁₁ carboxylic acid (or the equivalent lactone), and (iii) polymer fatty adds. Molar ratio of (i) to (ii) is from 1:1 to 2:3, and ratio of amine groups In (i) to acid groups in (ii) + (iii) is about 1:1.;Paint compositions containing them are also disclosed, as well as a process for incorporating the thixotropic agents (a) under the form of a concentrated solution (b) either into the paint, or into the hardener, or even distributed amongst the paint and the hardener.
