Recording and reproducing method for a magnetic track, particularly for the servo-positioning of magnetic heads, this track carrying for this purpose magnetic state transitions such that their reproducing furnishes pulses whose sign is representative of the direction of the transition, characterised in that recording takes place in the gap lying between two similarly-directed transitions (14) of signals (161, 162) such that their reproducing does not cause an oppositely-directed transition to appear, so that the transitions in the magnetisation all appear in the same directions. The invention also relates to a magnetic medium employing this method, and a method for servo-positioning of magnetic heads employing such a medium. IMAGE
