Electroscopic toners containing rhodamine ester dyes and quenching dyes therefor and their use

Toners and their use in electrographic color processes are described. The toners are magneta toners containing rhodamine ester dyes as colorants. These ester dyes have a phenyl group in the 9-position which phenyl group contains a non-lactonizing ester substituent. Typical rhodamine ester dyes have the structure:where each of R¹, R², R³, R⁴, R⁵ and R⁶ is H or an alkyl group, n is from 1 to 18 and X^e is an anion. Quencher dyes are used in the toners to quench fluorescent radiation that is emitted by the rhodamine dye esters upon excitation by visible light.
