The particles to be sorted are poured onto a translucent inclined plane (3) beneath which is arranged a light source and above which is placed a camera. At the bottom of the inclined plane (3) there are arranged, side by side, hammers (8) capable of tilting about a pivot (9) between a rest position and a position in which they eject the undesirable particle when the latter is detected by the camera. Each hammer (8) is fixed to a connecting rod (47), the downwards displacement of which places the hammer (9) in the ejection position. The connecting rod (47) is joined to the rod (61) of a double-action pneumatic jack (62) controlled by a distributor (43) which is pilot-controlled by a light-sensitive element of the camera.
