a system for removing volatile contaminants from a plume of pollution (20) within the surface consists of two sets of wells (25, 30), a shaft (25) for injecting fluid into a saturated zone on one side of the plume (20) and a shaft (30) for to get the fluid with the contaminants from the plume (19) on the other side of the plume.the fluid is evaporated, and the volatile contaminants to be brought with it from the soil to the shaft (30). the injection and extraction wells (25, 30) are preferably horizontal wells (40, 55) positioned below the plume in the saturated zone (b) and above the plume in the infiltration zone (a), respectively.the fluid may be air or other gas, or a mixture of gas and liquid of the type of contaminant removal, and may be preheated to facilitate evaporation. the treatment of pollution can be filtered off, burning, atmospheric dispersion, or the like.
