Bone screw fixation assembly, bone screw therefor and method of fixation

A bone screw fixation assembly comprises a longitudinally extending member (28) having an aperture (32) therethrough defining an inner wall with spaced first and second end portions (36, 38). A first set of threads (44) are formed in the inner wall at the first end portion (36) for receiving a cooperating second set of threads (20) disposed about the exterior of a fixation device (S). A longitudinally extending jam rod (30) has first and second spaced ends (58, 56), and the jam rod is receivable in the aperture (32) for permitting the jam rod first end to engage the fixation device (S) when received within the member first end portion (36). A locking mechanism is operably associated with the member (28) for selectively locking the jam rod in engagement with the received fixation device (S) so that movement of the first set of threads (44) relative to the second set of threads (20) is prevented.
