Short hookes joint, and a vehicle transmission equipped with same, preferably for an electric retarder

This is a Hooke's joint comprising a first fork (2) joined to an assembly flange (1), a second fork (4) joined to a length of shaft (5) and a cross-piece (6) whose four journals (7, 8) are mounted in pairs on the two forks with interposed needle roller bearings or the like. The flange (1) joined to one of its two forks (2) contains two axial through slots (9) which take the arms of the other fork (4) when the angular misalignment of the joint is great. Such a joint is particularly recommended for fitting to ultra-short vehicular transmissions fitted with electric retarders. IMAGE
