The radiometer comprises an antenna (1) which picks up radiation from thermal noise (RB) emitted by a target (C), a noise diode circuit (5) for estimating the mean radiation received by the antenna and due to the ambient temperature (ta), circuits (2, 3, 4, 6) receiving first and second signals (sb, DB) supplied by the antenna and the noise diode circuit in order to produce, in an intermediate frequency band, multiplexed samples (SB*, DB*) representing respectively the radiation emitted by the target and the mean radiation; and circuits (6 to 10) for evaluating the difference between the temperature (t) of the target and the ambient temperature by square-law detection, subtraction and integration of the samples. The radiometer is characterized in that the means of production comprise a mixer connected directly to the antenna (1) for the frequency transposition of the first signal within the said band into a first transposed signal (SB), and a switch (4) for sampling the transposed signal and the second signal in order to produce the multiplexed samples.
