According to the invention, a light beam is injected into a strongly-coupled superlattice and applied to the latter is an electric field (E) whose amplitude is varied over time so as to vary the intensity of the beam. The latter is injected in a manner parallel to the plane of the layers of the superlattice which guides the beam thus injected. The electric field is small and applied along the growth direction of the superlattice, which causes the appearance of a low-energy oblique transition (TB) in a wavelength range where the superlattice is transparent in the absence of electric field.
