The invention relates to a process for continuous casting intended for shaping metal matrix composite bodies reinforced by refractory ceramic particles. It consists in casting the molten metal containing the ceramic particles in a mould closed off by a movable base and consisting of an upstream hot zone (1) made from an insulating material and a downstream cooled zone (3) in which the composite solidifies, whilst producing, inside this mould, an electromagnetic stirring action ensuring mixing movements in planes containing the casting axis. This invention applies in particular to the production of plates and billets made from composite based on aluminium alloy reinforced by silicon-carbide particles. IMAGE
