The structure of the fibrous texture (10) is at least partially produced by application of a deformable layer or tape (18) such as a textile made of a material which advantageously has an expansion coefficient differing from that of the constituent material of the fibrous texture. The layer or tape is stretched over the fibrous texture or is kept applied to the latter by overreeling in order to obtain a desired degree of compacting of the fibrous texture. The texture is densified by chemical vapour phase infiltration of the material forming the matrix of the composite.
