The present invention relates to 5'-indolinyloxazolidin-2-ones (XI), 3-(fused-ring substituted)phenyl-5β-amidomethyloxazolidin-2-ones (XXI), and 3-(nitrogen substituted)phenyl-5β-amidomethyloxazolidin-2-ones (LV) which are useful as antibacterial agents and the intermediates (VI), (VII) and (VIII) useful for their production.
