The method detects the abnormal tape running that a take-up reel does not take up the running tape using a program stored in a ROM of a microcomputer. The method includes steps: (A) clearing a register (TRFG) for storing the take up reel pulse, a register (SRFG) when the value of a register (RCCM) is 16 and otherwise shifting data of registers (TRFG,SRFG) to the left; (B) clearing the register (RDATA) when the register value is 8 and otherwise shifting data of the registers (TRFG,SRFG) to the left, incrementing the register (RDATA) value and clearing a counter (COUNT); (C) comparing the values of registers (RINS, TRFG); and (D) storing the register (TRFG) value on the register (RINS), incrementing the register (RCOM) value and clearing the register (TRFG).
