The yarn brake assembly, at a two-for-one twisting spindle, has the counter braking surface facing the spindle axis, and at a working distance from the axis where the spindle rotates round its axis. Pref. a surface, below the counter braking surface, is displaced from it towards the spindle axis to accommodate the ball when the spindle is at rest. The sides movement gap for the ball into the rest position is smaller than the working distance. A yarn guide channel is coaxial to the spindle axis, with a side outlet to carry the counter braking surface at the yarn channel in the outlet. The spindle shaft has a drilling through its length which, at least in part, forms the yarn guide channel, to be closed by the ball when the spindle is at rest. The holding assembly for the ball is an insert, and a further insert locates the counter braking surface in the outlet with adjustment to vie give a selected working distance to the spindle axis. The spindle shaft is keyed to a drive section which can be coupled to the drive, and which as an outlet aligned with the drilling outlet at the shaft. A bobbin carrier rotates on the spindle shaft inserted axially through it, to be locked selectively against rotation with the shaft mpref. by a magnet brake, and allows the yarn to be drawn over the bobbin head. A channel to the ball support surface allows a ball exchange, which at least in sections coincides with the yarn channel. The ball is of a material which is magnetic or can be magnetised, or of a non-magnetic material such as ceramic, porcelain or glass. ADVANTAGE - The appts. gives an effective braking action, in a simple assembly, and which allows a yarn to be thread through easily.
