A signal (13) corresp. to the desired rotational speed is divided between two inputs (14,15) to an operational-amplifier addn. circuit (16). One input (14) is applied directly, and the other (15) via an adjustable 6-12% shunt resistance which is switched out (17) by the controller (12) of the clutch connecting the flywheel to the drive shaft. The idling speed is selected higher than the operational speed so that the latter is attained as soon as the clutch is engaged. ADVANTAGE - Rejection of out-of-tolerance prods. of the first few strokes of machine is avoided.
