An ink jet device having an exchangeable ink reservoir has an ink jet print head for emitting a recording ink and a unit to form the supply duct in order to feed the ink stored in the ink reservoir to the print head which is constructed in such a way that it can be connected to the ink reservoir and to an elastic rubber tube, it being possible for the elastic rubber tube to close at least part of the supply duct; and a closing device for closing the supply duct by compression and closing off the rubber tube counter to its elasticity as a reaction to removal of the ink reservoir. The rubber tube is arranged near to the connection portion to the ink reservoir and the closing device is arranged in such a way that it acts on the rubber tube before the ink reservoir is separated from the connection portion. Using this device, an ink jet recording device with a removable ink cartridge is provided, in which, by means of a design which is simple, highly reliable and inexpensive, loss of ink due to leaking is automatically prevented when the ink cartridge is changed.
