An ultrapure IL-2 preparation which has prolonged shelf life and which is suitable for therapeutical use, in particular in humans, and whose activity is sufficiently high even after repeated freezing and thawing and after lyophilisation is obtained by using, as stabiliser, a specifically characterised albumin, globulin or mixture of these substances with sugar alcohols, monomeric and polymeric sugars, gelatin or other known stabilisers.
