When pyrolysis gas obtained in the pyrolytic decomposition of starting material is cooled, process water is formed which, because of its content of chemical compounds, can only be disposed of or eliminated at high cost. The process water is therefore recycled to the pyrolysis reactor (10) operating with a fluidised bed (16).
