Air is drawn by a fan (25) through inlets (42, 37) to a combination of two stacks (13, 14) e.g. of ten plastic discs rotated by friction rollers (27, 28) and partly immersed in liq. reagent (34). High-voltage electrodes (53) in conjunction with electrically conductive plates (44) constitute a filter for pollen grains, aerosol or dust particles ionised by a source of 5 to 10 kV (48). The remaining particles are trapped conventionally by the liq. (34). A front cover (39) affords access for cleaning of the plates (44) removed from their holders (43). ADVANTAGE - Air cleaning efficiency is increased substantially without detriment to humidification.
