Joining two pref. metal sheets stacked on die using stamp - by driving material from top sheet into torn regions of bottom sheet created by downward action of stamp
Joining two pref. metal sheets stacked on die using stamp - by driving material from top sheet into torn regions of bottom sheet created by downward action of stamp
Means for joining at least two parts, esp. made of sheet metal, uses a stamp (3) and a die (4) with the novelty that the front end of the stamp has a flattened surface (10) which forms a tear (8) in one of the parts (2) that are to be joined. The flattened region (10) is narrower than the width of the stamp's stem and the transition region (11) between them is conical in shape. The die is flat at least in or around the region of the tear. The jointing action causes material (9) from the bottom sheet (2) to be expelled down into the die (4) - Fig, 1. ADVANTAGE - Even or flat joint surfaces are readily produced with material for increasing the strength of the joint at least partly flowing into the torn region.
