The evapn. surfaces are strongly absorbent of sunlight, have extended surface areas, withdraw the evapd. water from lower water layers by capillary action and provide insulation between a thin warm surface water layer and the underlying cooler water layers. The absorption surfaces are attached to the condensation surfaces by a net of a suitable mesh size. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for the desalination of sea water using solar energy. The proposed equipment can be easily and cheaply mass-produced, can be installed anywhere without the need for infrastructural support such as electricity supply, etc., can be used as a small-scale addn. to g existing water supplies and can be built up on a modular basis into a large-scale installation.
