A reactive turbine (3) is driven by compressed gas leaving exit jets (5) on the turbine. The gas is supplied to the jets via axially extending canals (16) in a piston (15) and corresponding canals (14) in the adjoining turbine hub (13). The piston is able to slide axially in a cylinder (17) into contact with the turbine hub. Pref. the contacting surfaces of the turbine hub and piston are of bronze or graphite/bronze. ADVANTAGE - Reduced wear between rotating and stationary parts.
