A low density fluid separator which normally works on a gravity principle can be improved by the fitting of a coalescence or filter insert. The inserts are installed through maintenance shafts and easier installation is achieved if the inserts are divided into sections. The vertical edges of each section are designed such that individual sections can be interlocked to form a sealed single unit. The vertical edges can also be designed in the form of hinges which allow inserts to be installed in one piece in a folded condition and then straightened out when in position.
