A process is claimed for the prodn of optical components (I) based on polymeric supports contg dye(s); the novelty is that the optical properties of a system S, consisting of the organic polymeric support T and photo-isomerisable dye(s) F are varied by irradiation with linearly-polarised light (L), specifically as a function of the direction of polarisation, and the morphology of T is varied by macroscopic, light-induced structuring. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful for information stage (pref as displays, esp coloured displays, or for holography, or for showing different information depending on the polarisation of the incident light), as polarisation filters, for rotating the direction of polarisation of incident light, and as filters for definite wavelength ranges (claimed). The system is not too complex and can be produced without increasing equipment costs wrt prior-art processes.
