Combined clip and cap for writing instrument - has through passage between side of cap and clip

A writing instrument is provided with a clip (1) which incorporates a cap (5) which covers the writing tip of the instrument. The cap (5) has a cylindrical body (8) with an end wall (6). The body (8) extends above the cap end wall (6) and has a radial opening formed between two parallel walls (4). These walls extend radially outwards and are connected by a wall which extends downwards beyond the cap (5) and at a distance from it to form the clip (2). A through passage (3) is thus formed between the clip (2) and the cap (5). In the event of the cap being swallowed by a young child, the through passage (3) prevents the child from being choked.
