The disk-shaped recording medium (2) contains at least 1 magnetic ansiotropic CoCr-layer (8) deposited on the substrate (3) with an intermediate layer (6) which enhances the anisotropy. The intermediate layer is an alloy with the general compsn. MexSi100-x in which Me is a metal, pref. consisting of at least one transition Gp metal, esp. Co, Ni and/or Ti. The parameter x has a value from 0.05-80%, esp. at least 70 atom%. The material in the intermediate layer (6) pref. contains impurities or other additives of up to 5 atom%. The intermediate layer is pref.1-100 nm thick, esp. 10-50 nm. USE/ADVANTAGE - The intermediate layer gives reduced width of the distribution of angles. of easy magnetisation with the normal to the layer surface (delta(theta)50), e.g. of 3 deg. instead of the 5 deg. obtained in current layers. In addition the conductivity of the intermediate layer reduces the depsn. of particles during sputtering in current processes are attracted by electro-static charging. The process is used for the mfr. of hard or floppy disks.
