One or more pieces of costume jewellery are produced with ornaments on a plastic substrate. The arrangement has one or simple or assembled ornaments on the surface or in a recess of a mounting which has bores leading to holes close to the ornaments; these ornaments are covered over with a thermoplastic sheet of partic. shape. In the prodn. process the space between the mounting and the cover sheet is subjected to an underpressure through the bores before the thermoplastic cover is cooled to below its softening pt.; during the process the ornaments are partially enveloped in the thermoplastic material and are fixed in position in projections of the material when it has cooled down. The prefd. thermoplastic material is PVC, ABS or polystyrene. ADVANTAGE - The procedure concerned has min. operations and is therefore very rapid, producing one or a number of complete items. It is considerably more rapid than previous methods. It produces, e.g. bracelets, necklaces, ear-rings, brooches, etc. The surfaces formed can be given relief patterns; the prods. can be transparent or opaque.
