Water leak detection - uses spanner-type appts. with two parts to hold probe body in saw to melt on water contact

The automatic instrument to indicate and prevent uncontrolled water outflows, using a probe with a rapidly melting solid body on water contact to prevent the leak is a two-part (I, II) adjustable spanner-type tool (7) and hand grip. The two parts pivot on a common axis (8) to open the tool and, when closed, allow the parts to fit together into the grip section. Each part has a lateral recess (9, 10) at the jaw face which, when closed, give the opening to hold the probe body (11). Pref. the outer edge of each tool part (I, II) is identical to cover each other, and are curved concentrically to the common pivot (8). The end of the Bowden (RTM) cable (6) is secured to an internal concentric cam (14) in one section (I) and rides in a concentric groove (15) in the other part (II) in a keyed fit. The curve length of the groove gives the opening width of the holding recesses (9, 10). The Bowden (RTM) cable (6) passes outwards through a channel (12) in the hand grip. Normal cube sugar is used as the probe body which, when clamped, is in contact with the base, so that if the sugar melts its change of shape activates the Bowden (RTM) cable to trip a shut-off valve in the washing machine. ADVANTAGE - The design gives a simple appts. which can work with small water leaks.
