The drive and tensioner for a chain scraper conveyor (2) for mining, has a machine frame (5). The frame (5) has side-plates (13) with cavities for a tension carriage (18) on which the chain drum of the conveyor (2) is mounted. A conveyor chain-tension drive consists of at least one hydraulic tension-cylinder (27) positioned in the machine-frame (5) under a cover between the conveyor stringer and an underneath stringer. The tension cylinder (27) grips over the contact point between the machine frame (5) and connecting groove (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - The conveyor chain is bracked and uses long stroked tension cylinders.
