In sepn. of oil and plastics, the oil is combined with a solvent in which the plastic is insol. A variant claimed provides for solvent recovery in the system. USE/ADVANTAGE - This is an economical sepn. method that enables both plastic and oil, from the used plastic packaging of oil, to be supplied for recycling. The soln. of the oil in the solvent allows complete cleaning of the plastic including removal of such matter as paper labels. The oil can easily be separated from the solvent by fractionating. The large amts. of this type of used packaging have hitherto been treated as "special" refuse and burned or dumped.
