In the SF6 filled switching chamber first the rated current contact opens, followed by a power contact. The light arc is blown by a quanching gas stream. The rated current contact (1,2,3) lies in the region of the circuit breaker axis and is surrounded by the power contact (4,5). An annular quenching gas feed duct (6) opens between the rated contact (1) member and that of the power contact (4) in the space of the switching path (30), at least at the side of the moving contact (1,4). A quenching gas discharge duct (7) surrounds the open parts of the power contact. The latter may consist of two contact members, each surrounded by a nozzle portion (8,9) in the OFF position. ADVANTAGE - Simple and compact design without insulators located in free gas flow of open breaker.
