Finding geographical position by digital measurement of height of sun - storing digital time of day with digital sun height measurement to ascertain longitude and latitude for navigation
To increase the measuring accuracy several pairs of the measurement pairs are digitally made and the mean value derived by an evaluating electronic unit and digitally stored for further evaluation. The ephemevis time and meridian of the sun are calculated by a known algorithm and digitally stored. The assumed position is manually entered and the values for azimuth and the differences in height of sun between the digitally measured and calculated values derived by means of the evaluating electronics and known and stored spherical trigonometric formulae. The astronomic position is thus ascertained, stored and displayed if desired. USE/ADVANTAGE: Easily used, reliable, rapid and sufficiently accurate to ascertain geographic position.
