The controller is connected to sectional switchgear by a mine cable (40) with integrated control wires (41) for 220 V lighting, control and monitoring power supplies. The monitoring wire (39) passes through emergency isolation switches (18,17) to an operating switch (10) in which a key (45) and an isolating contact (46) are ganged to an operational contact (48) earthing the terminal resistance and diode (47). The lighting, control and monitoring circuits are switched in sequence. ADVANTAGE - Lighting circuit can be operated independently of engine circuits with only one power cable, and complete safety in hazardous atmos.
