The device is used for growing plant crops in space. It has the container (8) surrounded by a skin (9) of porous thermally conducting material which is connected with the nutrient medium (11) at least in part. Between the container (8) and the skin (9) run spiral channels (12) connected at one end with the plant growing chamber (19) and at the other end opening into an exhaust air duct, which is part of a closed air circulation system. The skin (9) is connected with at least one cooling unit (16), and is itself surrounded by a container (10) of a thermally insulating material. USE/ADVANTAGE - A relatively small and simple unit for conducting botanical experiments in space.
