The test unit is intended for equipment which has a laser sensor, an x-y scanner, and a calculator for determining the angular coordinates of a target echo. The test unit is connected to the laser radar electronically and optically for the following steps. The scanner (21) is shut down optically and a simulated target echo (13a) is beamed in between the scanner (21) and the receiving part (22a) of the laser radar. This echo is only produced and beamed in when the instantaneous scanner postion with the angular coordinates stored in the memory (11a) of the calcualtor (11) for a previous measurement agrees sufficiently accurately with a test target. The test figures are then compared with previous figures in order to evaluate the functioning of the laser radar. ADVANTAGE - All relevant properties of target can be simulated without undue cost.
