The invention relates to a process and equipment for stabilising continuously extruded products, particularly cables, prior to a silane cross-linking stage. Equipment consists of an extruder with a cable covering head and a sag pipe in which the extruded tube is cross-linked. The sag pipe comprises one or more sections. At least one water treatment device can be positioned before or in the gas filled sap pipe. Water treatment before the cross-linking stage is provided by a moveable carriage supporing supporting a water tank and/or sprays. Within the cross-linking pipe water treatment nozzles are located pref. between individual pipe sections. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables extruded products, particularly cables with a silane cross-linking system to be cooled and stabilised. Equipment can be easily adapted for either silane or peroxide cross-linking systems.
