The gas laser has a resonator chamber (12) with mirrors set at either end (14, 16). The resonator chamber is of a folded type with two parallel axes (18a, 18c) treated by the mirror system. The complete optical path is formed by 4 sections (18a-18d). Gas flow takes place in a direction that is transverse to the optical axis (26). The resonator is coupled to a microwave source (42) coupled to a waveguide that is in the form of a rectangular section (44). ADVANTAGE - Cost effective means of excitation.
