The book shelf has a spring tensioned book rest which can be displaced horizontally e.g. can be fixed on a sliding carriage (1), which is movable horizontally in the bottom of a shelf unit. The book rest can press constantly against the books by means of a spiral spring. USE - Keeps book secure, even in the event of rolling movements of the shelf e.g. in caravans and boats.
