The ambulance or rescue vehicle has a system for carrying a patient on a stretcher. The vehicle is also provided with a seat (5) for a sitting patient. This seat is pivoted to the edge of one flange of an angle section beam (6). This beam is fastened to the floor of the vehicle by a swivelling joint at the edge of its second flange. The joint attaching the chair is connected to the floor joint in such a way that when the supporting beam is rotated through 180 deg. about the floor joint the chair remains in a horizontal position as it is moved through the vehicle doorway.
