The fluidised bed heat exchanger is esp. for liquids used for coating a surface. The heat exchanger has a housing (2) with connections (10) for the inlet and outflow of a heating or cooling medium. The housing (2) encloses a bundle of tubes (8) which have their lower ends buried in the fluidised bed (6). The fluidised bed (6) is mounted above the inlet chamber (3). The volume of this inlet chamber (39 is large enough to hold all the material in the fluidised bed before the heat exchanger begins to operate.
