The optical fibre core is made visible during a viewing time period. The optical fibre is irradiated by a light arc. Optical viewing accessories, in connection with the light refractive fibre sheath are so focussed that the core is displayed for a viewer with a sharp contrast. Pref. the light arc is kept weaker, at least for a part of the viewing time period, than is necessary for the optical fibre welding.
