This reactor for methanol synthesis has a spherical casing containing a spherical catalyst bed. To form a definite flow of the synthesis gas, there is an expulsion device (7) at the centre of the catalyst bed (15) and the synthesis gas inlet (2) is at the top of the reactor and the outlet (10) is at the bottom. Variants claimed include the expulsion device being spherical and having a number of radially-disposed horizontal quenching-gas distributor pipes (6), and other contructional features. USE/ADVANTAGE - The reactor, for methanol synthesis, is of simple and economical construction and provides a definite flow pattern of synthesis gas, so ensuring an optimal reaction that can be predicted and regulated.
