Lime-bonded coke mouldings for Fe and steel prodn. are mfd. by mixing coke fines with a mineral mortar and briquetting. Coke with a constant grain size of 30-0 mm is dry mixed with 8-12 wt.% mineral mortar of 4-6 wt.% burnt lime and 4-6 wt.% SiO2-contg. reactant and is wetted to give a total moisture content of 19%. Briquetting is carried out at c. 130 bar to give green compacts with a density of 1.1-1.2 kg/dm3, which are hardened in an autoclave with saturated steam.
